City working to clear refuse collection backlog in Atlantis

The City of Cape Town would like to assure Atlantis residents that its Urban Waste Management Directorate is working to clear refuse collection backlogs that have developed this week.

The backlogs are due to a contractor-related matter which the City is addressing with the service provider.

In the meantime, the City is collecting refuse in the affected areas using internal vehicles and teams. The backlog should be completed by Saturday, 9 November 2024 if all goes as planned.

‘We understand residents may be frustrated, but we ask those affected to not resort to dumping. Please take the bin out each day between 06:30 and 21:00 until it has been emptied. Our teams are working tirelessly to ensure refuse is collected in Atlantis. The City regrets any inconvenience caused during this time,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management, Alderman Grant Twigg.

• If your wheelie bin is stolen while waiting for collection, you can apply for another one easily by following instructions here. The City will remove any bagged waste outside the property on collection day while the household is waiting for delivery of the new bin. Bins should be delivered within 10 working days.
